The list contains unique terms currently used throughout this website. I’ll update the content monthly (with ORANGE text indicating new content). Check back often and/or sign up for alerts (below) as I introduce new characters, cultures and delightful absurdities. Enjoy the linguistic journey!

A
Aduno Tal: A popular card game of strategy and luck played throughout Magonia. In the Primal tongue, “Aduno Tal” roughly translates to “Cosmic Egg.”
Aether: The mythical and mysterious essence of the gods.
Aethernet: A magical medium transmitting visual images, sounds and smells via Aetheric projection (known as an aethercast), primarily used for broadcasting news, entertainment (including game shows, aethernovelas and ‘reality’ content) and Whomp’Em contests.
Aetheric Arts: The study and practice of magic, sigils and sorcery. There are 14 aetheric signatures to master, each associated with a respective Pūka deity.
Aetheric Flow: A term describing the placement of a player’s cards and token movement along a path, or “Way,” in an Aduno Tal match. The three standard Aetheric Flows are the Way of the Feather (beginner), Way of the Claw (intermediate), and Way of the Scale (advanced).
Aetheric Gift: The unique ability to manipulate reality by casting magical spells imbued with the power of the gods.
Aetheric Signatures: Fourteen schools of magic, each corresponding to a Pūka deity, studied at Ymrys Academy of Sigils and Sorcery (YASS).
Astra: Ancient, legendary weapons and artifacts imbued with the aether and power of the gods, often treasured family heirlooms or lost for eons. Astras range in potency and power, dependent upon the amount and type of aether used to craft them.
Awesu: A deadly jungle region of Magonia, infamous for toxic insects, fever dreams and missing explorers. Rumored to conceal a vast golden city, home to the mythical Earthborn tribes.
The Awesu Swarm: The legendary Earthborn Whomp’Em team said to have nearly defeated the Brackmire Bogpuppies in the first World Cup semifinals.
B
The B-666s: A flamboyant and eccentric Flameborn band known for their vibrant retro-futuristic costumes, catchy tunes, and thrift-shop aesthetic. Their top hit “Lust Shanty” showcases their signature blend of kitschy humor and surreal storytelling.
Bandhana-Griha: The sacred ziggurat vault of Magonian legend, guarded by fierce Earthborn sentinals and said to imprison the fearsome Hunting Kunka. Bedtime tales warn of its traps, riddles and aetheric wards protecting the world from the terror that sleeps within.
Baticorn: The true form of Dupa, the Pūka of the twin moons, dreams, twilight, dusk, magic and arcana. A beastly chimera combining traits of a bat and unicorn.
Bennaby, the Wormtongue: A powerful Primal Astra used by the Speaker of the Cosmos (currently Ghobli) to broadcast messages directly to individuals and masses alike.
Bhujaga River: A twisting, holy river snaking through the Awesu Jungle, believed by the Earthborn to be carved by the golden serpent god Williwumpa. Sunborn cruise ventures met quick ruin here, leaving only shattered boats and scattered bones behind.
Binny Butter: A creamy or crunchy spread made from finely ground hogpeanuts, renowned for its savory and nutty flavor. Despite its popularity, it’s a rare and prized delicacy due to the elusive nature of the hogpeanut plant.
Blaze Theatre: A notorious performance venue celebrated for its avant-garde shows, frequently showcasing daring displays of the aetheric arts.
Blood Bond: The sacred ritual of bonding with the weapon used by a Sister of Satin for her first kill.
Blood Covenant: A lifelong, sacred vow shared between the Sisters of Satin, binding them to one another with strictly enforced oaths, vows, tenets and obligations.
Blood Rite: The secret initiation trials that Unblooded novices of the Sisters of Satin must complete to earn the title of Sister.
Bloodletting: A term describing when a Sister of Satin forsakes the Blood Covenant, and the dire consequences that follow.
Blue Barramundi: An Earthborn tribe famed for spear fishing, canoe crafting and fishbone jewelry. Notoriously superstitious, they alone among the tribes bathe daily in the sacred Bhujaga River.
Bogpox: A painful skin condition causing large pustules and rashes, common among the Bloatborn. While incurable, symptoms can be treated with Bullywart or pain relievers. Its origin is unknown.
Bogpuppy: An enormous slug-like beast with prominent tentacles and cloven hooves, the favored steed of the Brackmire Bogpuppies, the reigning Whomp’Em World Cup champions.
The Bloody Mother: A disdainful term used (not to her face) to describe the Satin Mother.
The Blue Squire: A mysterious figure sought by the notorious woodland pirates, the Fluffy Bunnies.
Bola(s): A versatile term referring to both a traditional weapon and a sweet fried dough pastry, each endorsed and made famous by the cockfighter Braelus.
Brackmire: A vast, humid swamp region of Magonia, home to the Bloatborn’s capital city, Muribog, and the famous Grand Tal Arena.
The Brewed Awakening: The civil war between Duskborn and Dawnborn elves, leading to the formation of the Twilight Dominion Empire and the Awakened Republic.
Bula(s): The common currency of Magonia, named after the Pūka, Bula, god of earth, precious metals, craftsmanship, trade and commerce. Horns or shells?
Bullywart: A rare, toxic plant harvested in Brackmire’s wetlands, used to produce a light narcotic that is snuffed to induce euphoria and dull the sense of smell. Popular among Bloat elves.
Butterfish: The true form of Shella, the Pūka goddess of oceans, seas and elemental water, characterized as a chimera with the combined traits of a butterfly and a fish.
C
Cackleberry Tea: A rare, expensive and addictive fermented tea made by silent monks guarding its secret recipe. Drinking it induces slight psychedelic and intoxicating effects.
Cellini, the Nogginveil: A legendary Astra that grants the wearer invisibility, telekinesis and telepathy. Its current whereabouts are unknown.
Centipanther: Massive, nocturnal predators native to Awesu. With long, segmented bodies and paralyzing fangs, these stealthy hunters scale trees and prowl the jungle floor, targeting pests… and the occasional unwary traveler.
Chiggypig: A gigantic cave-dwelling crustacean resembling a pill bug, capable of curling into a ball, and featuring distinctive pig-like snout, ears and appetite. The favored steed of the Sporeborn.
Chipskunk: The true form of Duta (now known as “Maduta”), the Pūka of fear, death, and destruction. A chimera with traits (and smell) of a skunk and chipmunk.
CoAL: The common acronym for Cadets of Atrocity & Lethality, a military officer training program for young Flameborn.
Cock fights: A brutal and violent spectacle where combatants face off against other gladiators, wild beasts, and criminals for the crowd’s entertainment.
Cockelope: The true form of Zupa, the Pūka god of dawn, mornings, awakenings, new beginnings and caffeine, characterized as a chimera with the combined traits of a rooster and an antelope.
Cockpits: Amphitheaters that host gladiatorial combat, a popular feature in Dawnborn culture, with the illustrious Morning Glory Cockpits being the most renowned.
The Council of Nine: The elder council of the Sporeborn in the Heart of Thalu, ostensibly appointed by their Bloatborn “benefactors,” tasked with representing their community to Muribog’s elite.
CRAP: The common acronym for the Council of Radiance and Panache, the elite governing council of the Bloatborn elves.
Criolish: A bittersweet, creamy delicacy enjoyed across Magonia, crafted with rare, high-quality Criollo beans — known for it’s rich and complex flavor with notes of honey, flowers and spices.
The Crimson Hunt: A phrase used by the Sisters of Satin when stalking contracted targets.
The Crimson Kiss: The banner emblem of the the Sisters of Satin depicting a bloodied throwing Kunai.
Cypselu, the Buttercloak: A legendary iridescent Astra cloak that grants the wearer the gift of enhanced agility and flight through air and water. Currently worn by Rohit the Mighty.
D
Dawnkin’: A well-known coffee and pastry franchise, originally named “Dawnkin’ Bolas,” recently rebranded to focus on becoming a “beverage-led” brand. This change reflects Magonians’ growing preference for healthier options and decreasing consumption of bolas.
Dawnstrutter: The preferred steed of the Dawnborn’s Nella Island Strutters Whomp’Em team, notable for its appearance resembling an oversized rooster with reptilian legs and tail.
Dreamborn: Mysterious visitors said to be crafted by the Primes, once friends to ancient Magonians. Lost to history after the Pool of Wonder was sealed, neither Dreamborn nor Magonians have crossed paths in eons.
E
The Eldritch Way: A forbidden and mysterious “Aetheric Flow” in the Aduno Tal card game, spoken of in hushed tones.
Emberlord Records: The largest music corporation in Magonia, this Flameborn company boasts an extensive catalog and a diverse roster of artists. Renowned for owning numerous iconic record labels and brands.
Eos: A sprawling wasteland region in the Magonia, formerly home to Lumindor, the once-great capital of the Dawnborn Republic.
Expositor General: The title of the headmaster of Ymrys Academy of Sigils and Sorcery (YASS).
F
Fairborn: Magonia’s scholarly, law-obsessed denizens, created by Pulla, goddess of knowledge. Once hailed as “perfect,” they now bear beastly features from an ancient curse. Known as “Felborn” by their detractors.
Flamespeaker: The royal title for the King of the Flameborn, a master blacksmith of the Great Forge of Infernath, who wields the legendary Astra, Norogröht Hamar, known as the Heart of Stone. The current Flamespeaker is Sköll.
Flare Femme: A hazardous, yet popular Flameborn fragrance with a distinctive scent of burning meat, crafted by aethernet celebrity Roople Charred in collaboration with Fairborn alchemists, notorious for its captivating yet carcinogenic properties.
Folly Loaf: A decadent, high-caloric sandwich made by hollowing out a warmed loaf of bread and filling it with an entire jar of creamy binny butter, a jar of gumberry jam, and a pound of bacon.
The Forbidden Grove: A hidden grove in Gethorn forest, rumored to be an ancient ritual site. Its location is lost to history and (likely) overgrown with hogpeanut.
The Forge Festival: A fiery celebration honoring the Flameborn’s military dominance, showcasing spectacular displays of pyrotechnics, fire dancing and fire-eating performances.
Frogfox: The true form of Bucca, the Pūka of trickery, charm, luck, greed, chaos, and celebrations. A chimera with traits of a frog and fox.
Fungaloid: A racial slur used to demean Sporeborn.
G
The Germination: A Gladeborn tall tale about the founding of their family tree’s three branches.
Gethorn Forest: A vast, haunted forest in Magonia. Home to the Gladeborn’s capital city, Gullyveil.
Gladehopper: Large frog-like creatures with rabbit-like faces and ears. They traverse Gethorn Forest using specialized toe pads that secrete a sticky mucous, allowing them to easily cling to trees. Known for reproducing at the most inopportune times, Gladehoppers are the favored steed of the Fluffy Bunnies.
Glamoraith, the Power Suit: A strange Astra garment, currently worn by Lady Urbess of the Bloatborn, giving her the power of levitation and shapeshifting.
Gullyveil: The bustling and sprawling capital city of the Gladeborn, deep within the heart of the haunted Gethorn forest. It’s location is a well-kept secret.
Gumberries: An invasive shrub producing extremely sweet and tart berries with tough skins, considered inedible and unpalatable by most Magonians. It spreads aggressively, ruining gardens.
Grand Alchemist: The esteemed title given to the foremost alchemist in the cosmos, an individual who has achieved mastery in alchemy and herbalism for the service of the gods.
Grand Credentialist: The exalted Fairborn authority responsible for certifying, authenticating, and notarizing every achievement, merit, and grievance. No deed, diploma, or dispute may stand unverified before their impeccable seal.
Grand Librarian: A formal title for the Chancellor of the Fairborn Grand Presidium. The Grand Librarian’s authority is absolute in all matters of law, knowledge, and silence. Frivolity and ignorance are swiftly and “gently” corrected. Smiles strictly forbidden.
Grand Magus: A title for legendary magi who have mastered all fourteen aetheric signatures. Only seven magi have earned this title over the eons, signified by the tricord of mastery.
Grand Tal Arena: An enormous, egg-shaped Whomp’Em stadium in Muribog, home to the Brackmire Bogpuppies team, and the Whomp’em World Cup tournament.
The Great Forge: A colossal forge and furnace located in the heart of Infernath, deep within the volcanic bowels of Mount Khulan, fueled by the mythical Eternal Flame Astra. For eons, Flamespeakers have wielded Norogröht Hamar, the Heart of Stone, to craft magical Astra weapons imbued with the power of the gods.
Green Gibbons: An enterprising Earthborn tribe known for their convenience huts in Awesu, where customers can procure Bloatborn Swog, Cackleberry Tea, Gladeborn furniture, Skyleaf and nearly any contraband worth craving.
Grillmaster: An honorary title bestowed upon the royal barbecue chef, specializing in the slow-cooking of Magonian meats. The current Grillmaster is Geitir, known for his incredibly spicy secret sauces.
Gullywag: A large and loyal nature spirit resembling a dog with cloven hooves and lush foliage as its coat. Some breeds of gullywags have small horns and antlers. Gullywags are the favored steed of the The Gullyveil Gladeators Whomp’Em team.
H
The Heart of Thalu: The ancient, expansive underground capital of the humble Sporeborn, with its lichen-lined, phosphorescent streets rarely seen by outsiders.
Hens: A Dawnborn slang term used to refer to females, often viewed unfavorably by those outside the culture.
Hen & Malay: A fashion brand commonly referred to as H&M, offering Bula-conscious clothing and accessories in bold and flamboyant styles, particularly favored by Dawnborn youth.
High Falutir: An honorary title given once an eon to recognize an individual with outstanding achievements and contributions toward the betterment of Bloatborn society.
Hogpeanut: An incredibly rare legume found only in the haunted forest of Gethorn, highly sought after for its potent aphrodisiac effect.
Hoproach: The preferred steed of the Earthborn, an enormous cockroach with froglike legs, famed for its towering leaps and hearty appetite for carrion.
The Hunting Kunka: Once the apex terror of Magonia, it now lies sealed in Bandhana-Griha, captured by Rohit the Mighty, and watched by Earthborn wardens who firmly believe some nightmares are better left napping.
I
Ignasar, the Twintongue: A legendary double-bladed spear Astra, imbued with Hunka’s fiery might that grants the bearer the powers of disintegration, combustion and flame manipulation.
Infernath: The dark (and intensely hot) capital of the Flameborn Kingdom, standing within the active volcano of Mount Khulan in the Molek region of Magonia.
Inferno Nightclub: A legendary Infernath hotspot, originally an opera house and aethernet broadcast studio, celebrated for its glamorous atmosphere, celebrity clientele and hedonistic culture.

Mount Khulan: An active volcano housing the fiery Flameborn in their capital, Infernath, and the Stoneborn who have constructed Töphra, the Cinderhold, into its slopes. Its depths are renowned for rich deposits of gold, silver, precious gems, and coveted aetherite.

Lumindor: The former capital of the Dawnborn Republic that lies in ruins following the Brewed Awakening elfkin wars.
M
Magonia: The original domain of the gods, created by the Primes.
Magonian: The various denizens and cultures of Magonia.
Magus: A title conferred upon graduates of Ymrys Academy of Sigils and Sorcery (YASS), having mastered an aetheric signature.
Malador, the Stinkscythe: A dark Astra wielded by Maduta, the goddess of death. It grants the power to meld into shadows, induce terrifying nightmares and peer through the eyes of night creatures.
Mantilion: The true form of Souza, the Pūka god of nature, balance, earth, plants and animals, characterized as a chimera with the combined traits of a lion and a praying mantis.
Meatflower: Beautiful, delicate and delicious flowers that bloom on trees throughout Magonia. There are nine varieties with distinct flavors: Salamish, Pepperona, Pastramish, Soprosa, Calabran, Bolonish, Chorizan, Prosciuitti and Mortadon. Fairborn hybridization attempts have mostly produced unpalatable crops.
MEH: The common acronym for the Museum of Elven History, a popular tourist trap with a newly renovated gift shop. The building is rumored to have been built upon the ruins of an ancient sacred site.
Molten Metal: This Flameborn music genre is popular among Magonian youth during their rebellious phase. Commonly referred to as “Scare Bands,” their music features electrified keytars and rhythmic war drums, occasionally delivering a power ballad. The lyrics typically glorify brutality, torture and military prowess.
Mooncat: The formal title of the High General of the Moonguard, the Twilight Dominion’s military forces.
The Moonflight: The banner emblem of the Duskborn elves, depicting Dupa, the Twilight Baticorn in flight between the Twin Moons.
Moonguard: The Duskborn military forces of the Twilight Dominion empire.
The Morning Glory: An infrequently used nickname for Zupa, the god of the dawn, and also the name of the Dawnborn elves’ banner emblem, portraying Zupa, the Slumbering Cockelope, awakening in a decidedly crabby mood.
Molek: A dangerous mountainous region of Magonia, characterized by its uninhabitable terrain and high volcanic activity. Home to the Flameborn and Stoneborn Magonian.
Muddleglum: A recreational drug made from common mushrooms found in wetlands, used for inducing relaxation and sleep.
Muribog: The capital city of the Bloatborn, located in the Brackmire swamp region.
N
Nella Islands: An exclusive island paradise celebrated for its red sandy beaches, luxury resorts, high-end shopping, fine dining and casinos, making it a favored destination for the rich and famous.
Nella Wafers: A popular shortbread cookie, made from sweet beets and sugar.
Nishaan: Meaning “Twilight’s Jewel,” Nishaan is the capital city of the Twilight Dominion, located in the Nocturna region of Magonia.
Nocturna: A mountainous region of Magonia bathed in perpetual twilight. Home to the Twilight Dominion empire and its capital city, Nishaan.
O
Orange Olingos: The Earthborn’s smallest, loudest and least dependable tribe. With a reputation of having the attention span of a fruit fly and a “don’t give a f….” spirit. Olingos swing through Awesu’s canopy by night, foraging and partying while dodging anything resembling responsibility.
P
Paladin: A holy knight who has dedicated their life to a cause or deity, renowned for heroism and chivalry.
Pangolox: Massive, shy and nocturnal, these horned, scaled beasts curl into a ball when threatened and unleash paralyzing poison with crippling effects. Feared by Earthborn for their deadly claws, stench, and venom—yet prized for poison-tipped hunting weapons capable of felling giants.
Wild Papuga: Enormous, cunning predatory birds with curved beaks, tusks and nimble claws; three times the size of an Earthborn and just as crafty. Swift fliers, expert mimics, clever tool-users and notorious for hunting anything that wanders too close.
Pavitra Teela: Fabled city where the Earthborn empire once thrived, believed forged from Williwumpa’s golden gift. When Flameborn giants discovered myth instead of metal, they set the city ablaze, leaving only charred ruins, unanswered questions and a tribe of Red River Rats served up as appetizers.
Phoenix Moth Monkey: The true form of Hunka, the Pūka of fire, smoke and baclsmiths. A chimera with traits of a monkey, moth and phoenix.
Pleasureglom: Exclusive Bloatborn retreats offering the finest mud baths and decadent relaxation treatments.
Pollendark: The secret pirate haven of the notorious Fluffy Bunnies within Gethorn Forest.
Porkadile: The true form of Luda, the Pūka of sloth, decay, despair and gluttony. A chimera with traits of a pig and crocodile.
Proctoss, the Bungal Glove: A legendary Astra gauntlet of great power, allowing the wearer to safely pass their hand through any element, substance or object, including flesh.
Pūka: The 14 Aetheric gods of the cosmos, capable of “spitting” (vomiting) their powers from lightning to acid, fire to frost. They can appear humanoid but prefer their true chimeric forms.
Pulla Bread: Famously named after Pulla, the Pūka goddess of knowledge, Pulla bread is a traditional holiday dessert, made with caterpillar, cinnamon, almond and vanilla.
Purple Pumas: The Earthborn’s resident intellectual tribe. Devotees of astrology, alchemy and science, admired (and occasionally feared) for their sharp minds and influential role on the Swarm Circle council.
Pussybat: An intelligent and elegant great cat with razor sharp claws and the thick, leathery wings of a bat. Pussybat personalities range from independent to playful, curious to aloof… let’s be honest, they’re mostly aloof. Pussybats are the favored steed of the Twilight Dominion empire and the Nishaan Nightwind Whomp’Em squad.

The Reawakened: A secretive cult led by the enigmatic Donkey King, attracting an increasing following among the rich and famous.
Red River Rats: The most scorned Earthborn tribe. Scavengers, beggars, thieves and outcasts with large families, reliant on the charity of others. Only admitted to the Swarm Council after Rohit the Mighty subdued the Hunting Kunka.
The Red Rooster: The moniker of Braelus, the young Dawnborn cockfighter renowned for defeating the giant Galyut in gladiatorial combat.
S
Sage Lumarious: An academic title awarded to the valedictorian upon graduation from Ymrys Academy of Sigils and Sorcery (YASS).
The Satin Mother: The formal title given to the sole leader of the Sisters of Satin.
Sangrelle, the Whispering Cavern: A sacred site of the Sisters of Satin where the Blood Rite is performed, located in the Golden Desert of Waugal.
The Scribatus of Bignostica: Legendary Astra memoir of the largely unknown ancient scribe of Bignostica, the original Speaker of the Cosmos, and wielder of the Elder Quillsword Astra. Part cosmic history, part puzzle collection, it records Magonia (and beyond) in riddles, challenges and mysterious illustrations.
The Scourge of Gethorn: A common nickname for Leelee, the Pirate Queen of the Fluffy Bunnies.
The Sea of Blood: Used to describe the sprawling red tent encampment of the nomadic Sisters of Satin.
Sealubber: A derogatory pirate term for someone unfamiliar with woodlands and forestry.
The Silent Death: A less common term used to describe the Satin Mother’s legacy.
Silver Skinks: The most formidable Earthborn tribe. Aloof, territorial predators, skilled in jungle weapons, traps and poisons. Feared as killers and considered the alphas, they nest beneath thorny cover and rarely tolerate rivals or outsiders.
Skyleaf: A common psychoactive weed grown in high altitudes, inducing psychedelic experiences when smoked.
Skull n’ Sabres: The banner emblem of the Fluffy Bunnies pirates, depicting, well… a skull and two sabres.
Snatching Wigs: A slang expression, popular among drag queens, used to describe something so impressive or shocking that it’s akin to having one’s wig pulled off in surprise or excitement.
Souza’s Roar: The banner emblem of the fractured Earthborn empire, featuring Souza, the mantilion, roaring (or in a Skyleaf-induced haze… nobody truly knows).
Speaker: The individual chosen by the Primes to serve as their mouthpiece to the Cosmos, akin to a lifetime-appointed Pope.
The Spires: Commonfolk nickname for the mysterious Ymrys Academy of Sigils and Sorcery (YASS), derived from the three immense spires of the academy, representing the Primes.
The Sunway: The main stage of the hit aethernet reality series “Roople’s Best Friend Race,” where contestants face literal death drops and other life-threatening obstacles in pursuit of a grand prize, fame and title of “Magonia’s Next Drag Superspark.”
The Swarm Circle: The ruling council of the six Earthborn tribes: Blue Barramundi, Red River Rats, Silver Skinks, Purple Pumas, Green Gibbons and Orange Olingos; composed of their elders and chieftains. Council debates are lively affairs, usually steered (or strong-armed) by the Silver Skinks.
Swog: The Bloatborn’s alcoholic drink of choice, featuring earthy flavors from Brackmire Swamp’s finest botanicals. The recipe is a closely guarded secret. Proud sponsors of the Whomp’Em World Cup.

Tenae, the Gladefoil: The legendary Astra that grants the bearer power to manipulate woodlands, jungles and insects.
Tricord: Three beaded cords — in red, yellow and blue — awarded to Grand Magi after mastering all 14 aetheric signatures.
Twigling: Earthborn slur for Red River Rats or Orange Olingos, used to belittle the tribes seen as weakest or least respectable.
The Tripod: The emblem of the Gladeborn, featuring three intertwined pods of Hogpeanut representing the three branches of the Great Family Tree.
The Twilight Dominion: The formal name of the Duskborn empire, ruled by Emperor Jairus.

Unblooded: A novice or initiate of the Sisters of Satin, often used derogatorily.
